The Artist
Petra Feriancová (b. 1977, Bratislava, Slovakia; lives and works in Bratislava, Slovak Republic)
LIMBO (2026)
Petra Feriancová’s practice traverses photography, sculpture, and installation. Reinterpreting and mixing personal archives from relatives with other found materials in non-linear constructions, she explores alternative constructions and perceptions for meaning and matter. LIMBO is an installation that gathers images sourced from National Geographic publications alongside the artist’s photographs to explore what she calls the “sculpture of the archive.” Taken as repositories of personal and cultural memory, the images are classified thematically in works such as Family (Vulnerable yet Everlasting) (2015/2026) and Domain: Sea (2010/2026). LIMBO, as Feriancová describes, refers to a “kind of unsafe state which I, and the world, are in at the moment. But it’s also the motherhood, life in the uterus and water.” Like much of the artist’s work, LIMBO is an ongoing and evolving installation.
Petra Feriancová was selected to represent the Czech and Slovak Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale. Selected solo exhibitions include Palazzo Collicola, Spoleto (2023); Fondazione Morra Greco, Naples (2023); Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo, Fondazione Merz, ZACentrale, Palermo (2022); and FABVLAE, Villa D’Este, Tivoli (2020). Selected group exhibitions include Kaunas Biennial, Kaunas (2023) and MADRE, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina, Naples (2017). Her work is in the permanent collections of the Slovak National Gallery, Slovak Republic; GMB Gallery of the City Bratislava, Slovak Republic; AGI Verona Collection, Italy; Fondazione Morra Greco, Italy; Palazzo Collicola Spoleto, Italy; Villa D’Este, Tivoli, Italy; Collezione Planeta Palermo, Italy; Art Collection Telekom, Germany; Lawrence Benenson Collection, US; and European Investment Bank EIB, Luxembourg.
The Gallery
Founded in 2015, Elizabeth Xi Bauer began as an online platform accompanied by pop-up exhibitions. In 2021, the gallery opened a permanent space in Deptford, South-East London. In addition to an exhibition programme, EXB has collaborated on projects with international institutions, curators, and artists across various cities, including São Paulo, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Lisbon.
In 2025, to mark its tenth anniversary, EXB opened a second gallery space in London’s Exmouth Market, in Clerkenwell. Recently, the Deptford space has evolved into an invitation-only Artist Studio, renewing the gallery’s commitment to fostering experimental practices at every stage of artists’ careers.
