The Artist

“The Mirror” (1984-1985) is an iconic series of vintage photography’s by Decebal Scriba. It captures an intervention on the seaside which began in the 1980s, and act as a philosophical reflection around the concept of reality. In echo to this series, will be exhibited a large central contemporary mirror sculpture, along with the major work “Suite #1 - Monades” (1970-1980), a personal poetic diary presented as a montage of 23 vintage prints. Decebal Scriba is a leading figure in the post-war Romanian avant-garde from the 1970s and 80s, approaching media such as photography, installation, performance and video art with a sustained activity in the sphere of conceptual art.

The Gallery

Founded in 2016 in Paris (Le Marais), Galerie Anne-Sarah Bénichou represents 14 artists of different generations, French and foreign, emerging and established. The diversity of practices and origins of these artists contributes to promoting individualities with a singular view of the world and to instituting a dialogue between different eras and varied art forms. Each exhibition seeks to question the sensibility of the world, and more specifically the place and form of contemporary art in our society. For the past eight years, the gallery has secured its position on the French and international scene, among collectors and art professionals, by pursuing a single goal: a commitment to culture, the arts and artists. The gallery also pursues a publishing activity by regularly producing catalogs and books on its artists. Numerous academics, critics and curators participate in these initiatives and provide a detailed overview of the artists’ work. The gallery participates in fairs in France and abroad: Art Basel, Paris Photo, Arco Madrid, Art Brussels, Art Paris, Independent, Art Genève, Artissima, etc.
