The Artist

Antonio Menchen (b. Toledo, Spain, 1983; lives and works in Madrid and Berlin)

Ojo mano (2023)
A Special Stage in Perpetual Metamorphosis II (2024)

In Menchen’s past works with the film device and with celluloid material, a haptic or tactile visuality was already perceived, a term that does not oppose touch to sight, but rather has a quality of proximity to its object. In the current series, a collection of photographs becomes an object ejected into the unknown, its trajectory still indecipherable. As a movement from the attention placed on the image of previous works to the more volumetric – sculptural – concern of the current work, these works continually expand within the room, never to assume a definitive form, evolving with every passing moment.

Antonio Menchen explores the image as an active organism, a machine that transforms representation and questions the construction of fiction. Menchen uses a deconstructive approach to dismantle visual protocols, reflecting on the montage and reconfiguration of images.

Select solo exhibitions include Centro Párraga, Murcia (2019); Bulegoa, Bilbao (2019). Select group exhibitions include MUSAC, León (2025, upcoming); Centro Botín, Santander (2024); Fundación FIMINCO, Romainville, France (2023); Sant Andreu Contemporani, Barcelona (2019); TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, Tenerife (2019); Artium, Vitoria-Gasteiz (2020). His work is held in collections including INELCOM Collection, Madrid; Barcelona Town Hall Collection; BilbaoArte Foundation Collection.

The Gallery

Opened in 1985 and currently managed by Olga Adelantado, the gallery has been focused right from the start on promoting and disseminating contemporary art. Over the years it has represented and exhibited work by a wide spectrum of national and international artists, renown and emerging. The main purpose of the gallery is to further build on a dynamic, eclectic program focusing on establishing new relationships between artists, disciplines, and other players in the sector.
