Álex Marco
by Luis Adelantado

The Artist

At OFFSCREEN Álex Marco presents “Round Trip” (2024), a series that creates a circular analysis between mediums. Marco uses the methodology of video, particularly celluloid film, to interpret, represent, translate and transform paintings. He creates non-narrative video essays that reference avant-garde video art and experimental cinema that develop a distorted image and birth new still images. Marco then reworks the resulting images: once the videographic format provides its own language not only in terms of movement but also in terms of plastic and aesthetic results, the photogram is taken as a new starting point to create a renewed set of paintings.

Marco’s work has been exhibited in institutions and galleries such as: EACC in Castellón, IVAM Museum in Valencia, CCCC, Valencia, Centro Párraga, Murcia, and others. His work is held in collections including Michel Jolivet Collection, Lyon, SCAN, London, Related Group Collection, Miami, Pietro Molina Collection, Italy, Von Schulthess Collection, Switzerland, among others. He has received awards including the Guasch Coranty Foundation Award, Obra Abierta IX Award from the Caja Extremadura Foundation, VEGAP Proposals 2022, Isabel Comenge Biennial of Painting, and others.

The Gallery

Opened in 1985 and currently managed by Olga Adelantado, the gallery has been focused right from the start on promoting and disseminating contemporary art. Over the years it has represented and exhibited work by a wide spectrum of national and international artists, renown and emerging. The main purpose of the gallery is to further build on a dynamic, eclectic program focusing on establishing new relationships between artists, disciplines, and other players in the sector.
